In this episode, we discuss the importance of all truth belonging to God and therefore to all of us in Christ. Wherever truth is found whether it be in science, philosophy, or even another religion, we are invited to own it, take it captive for Christ, and redeem it. This was something done throughout both the Old and New Testaments and is a vital part of the reconciliation of all things.
Scripture we Reference (All NIV)
Deuteronomy 6:4 – “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.”
1 Corinthians 3:21 – “So then, no more boasting about human leaders! All things are yours, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas uor the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God.”
2 Corinthians 10:5 – “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.”
Genesis 6-9 – The Flood Story
Revelation 12 – The Woman and the Dragon
Titus 1:12 – “One of Crete’s own prophets has said it: “Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons.” This saying is true. Therefore rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith and will pay no attention to Jewish myths or to the merely human commands of those who reject the truth.”
Acts 17:28 – “‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your own poets have said, ‘We are his offspring.'”
1 Corinthians 15:33 – “Do not be misled: ‘Bad company corrupts good character.'”
1 John 4:1-3 – “Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world. This is how you can recognize the Spirit of God: Every spirit that acknowledges that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is from God, but every spirit that does not acknowledge Jesus is not from God.”
2 Corinthians 5:16-20 – “So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us.”
Isaiah 60:9 – Surely the islands look to me; in the lead are the ships of Tarshish, bringing your children from afar, with their silver and gold, to the honor of the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, for he has endowed you with splendor.”
Isaiah 2: – “The Lord Almighty has a day in store for all the proud and lofty, for all that is exalted (and they will be humbled), for all the cedars of Lebanon, tall and lofty, and all the oaks of Bashan, for all the towering mountains and all the high hills, for every lofty tower and every fortified wall, for every trading ship* and every stately vessel.”
*in the Hebrew trading ship is “every ship of Tarshish”
