In this episode, we continue our Lord’s Prayer series by exploring the challenge and invitation of asking God to provide us with our daily bread. Bread has many dimensions to it related to the manna in the wilderness of Exodus and Jesus declaring that He is the Bread of Life. Praying this line is a beautiful way to enter into the gifts God gives us and open to being a conduit for them to flow into the world.

Scripture Referenced (ALL NIV)

Matthew 6:11 – “Give us today our daily bread.”

Exodus 16:15-20 – “Moses said to them, “It is the bread the Lord has given you to eat. This is what the Lord has commanded: ‘Everyone is to gather as much as they need. Take an omer for each person you have in your tent.’ ” The Israelites did as they were told; some gathered much, some little. And when they measured it by the omer, the one who gathered much did not have too much, and the one who gathered little did not have too little. Everyone had gathered just as much as they needed. Then Moses said to them, “No one is to keep any of it until morning.” However, some of them paid no attention to Moses; they kept part of it until morning, but it was full of maggots and began to smell.

Proverbs 30:7-9 – “Two things I ask of you, Lord; do not refuse me before I die: Keep falsehood and lies far from me; give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’ Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.”

John 6:31-33 – “Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written: ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’” Jesus said to them, ‘Very truly I tell you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is the bread that comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.'”
