Luke Wilson, author of the book 40 Days with the Fathers: A Journey Through Church History, joins the podcast today to discuss the lives and practices of some of the most formational people in the history of the Church. We talk about some of their lives, including what we know from The Life of Anthony, what their experiences and discoveries can mean for our faith formation today, go deep into fasting, and more!

Hello Phil, thank you for taking the initiative to interview Luke and source out the insights that are contained within his book.
With regards to the discipline of fasting, one thing that I think I learnt from Richard Foster was that fasting strengthened your capacity to say “No”.
My wife, Judy, and I use the Church of England book “Common Worship: Services and Prayers for the Church
of England” as a resource for saying the Daily Offices of Morning Prayer, Prayer During the Day, Evening Prayer and Compline. However rarely do we say all of the Offices a day. We have found it to be an excellent resource to provide us with a structure for undertaking probably the most important daily task that we as Christians are called to participate in – joining in prayer with the communion of saints – both current and those in glory.
Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
