St. Teresa has a lot to say about the type of person who may begin to experience a deeper connection with God, the type of relationship that truly begins to fulfill the desire God placed inside us. She especially focuses on the importance of loving our neighbors, detachment from the world (in the sense of not finding our joy or fulfillment in created things but only in the Creator), and joining our will to the will of God as necessary parts of this process. Without love of neighbor, how can we love God?
